Seismic Retrofitting of Indonesian Masonry Using Bamboo Strips: An Experimental Study
نویسندگان
چکیده
Unreinforced masonry (UM) is well known as a vulnerable structure against earthquakes. However, it remains popular structural system for low-rise residential housing in many high-seismicity areas, particularly developing regions due to its low cost and easy construction. In the present study, retrofitting strategy using locally available material, bamboo strips, was proposed. addition fast-growing rate, tensile strength of considered high, nearly comparable steel counterpart. A series experimental tests were performed this including test, mortar flexural diagonal compressive shear test on assemblages, in-plane pushover wall specimens without with reinforcement. The retrofitted different volumes reinforcement also considered. results show that application reinforcement, at proper volume, significantly increases ultimate ductility wall. Such indicate brittle failure UM structures can be avoided by means retrofitting.

Seismic retrofitting of non-engineered masonry in rural Nepal
One of the greatest causes of casualties in major earthquakes around the world is the collapse of non-engineered masonry buildings (those built without engineering input). Yet by definition non-engineered structures remain largely outside of the scope of modern engineering research, meaning that the majority of those at risk often remain so. A further barrier to realising research in this field...
متن کاملInvestigating Efficiency of Shotcrete for Retrofitting Masonry Buildings
One of a feasible and efficient method to retrofit structures is spraying shotcrete which is widely applied around the world. Shotcrete is concrete with fine aggregates which are sprayed through a hose and by air pressure coat at high velocity onto a surface. In the current research, three masonry schools from different regions of Iran are selected. The retrofitted wall surfaces have been prepa...
متن کاملRetrofitting Masonry Walls with Carbon Mesh
Static-cyclic shear load tests and tensile tests on retrofitted masonry walls were conducted at UAS Fribourg for an evaluation of the newly developed retrofitting system, the S&P ARMO-System. This retrofitting system consists of a composite of carbon mesh embedded in a specially adapted high quality spray mortar. It can be applied with established construction techniques using traditional const...
متن کاملApplication of Near Surface Mounted (NSM) technique for Seismic Retrofitting of Heritage Buildings
The high vulnerability of the cultural buildings due to seismic actions urged researchers to retrofit them using reversible and compatible techniques. The application of fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) for enhancing the structural behavior of masonry buildings, under seismic actions, has been studied by many researchers. The near-surface mounting (NSM) technique is a relatively new retrofitting ...
متن کاملOn the Use of CFRP Sheets for the Seismic Retrofitting of Masonry Walls and the Influence of Mechanical Anchorage
This work reports the outcomes of an extensive experimental campaign on the retrofitting of masonry walls by means of carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) sheets, carried out at University of Applied Sciences (UAS) Fribourg. In the first stage, static-cyclic shear tests were conducted on the masonry walls, followed by a second stage of tensile tests on alternative configurations of mechanical...
